‘Manushi’ appeals for ‘conscience vote’

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: A group of women under the banner of ‘Manushi’ has expressed “deep concern at the manner in which the dignity and integrity of the highest office in India had been compromised” with the United Progressive Alliance’s choice of a candidate, allegedly involved in financial bungling and also accused of shielding her brother for his alleged role in a murder case.

“Unacceptable”

In a press note here on Wednesday, the women said the manner in which the Bombay High Court had reportedly “castigated” the CBI for “shoddy investigation” in the alleged murder case, reportedly under “political influence,” made Pratibha Patil’s candidature even more unacceptable. “It is an insult to the women of India that her candidature is being projected as a symbol of women’s empowerment,” they said.
