Indian girls advance

Mysore: The Mysore-based Poojashree Venkatesh, seeded third, entered the second round of the Smash International junior grade II ITF tournament at Egypt with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Romania’s Ioana-Laura Alecsiu in the girls’ under-18 section.

Also progressing to the second round were Hyderabad’s Janaki Gunuganti, who beat Klara Ellingerova of Czech Republic 6-2, 6-1, and qualifier Archana who defeated Egypt’s Yara Abou el Ghar 6-3, 6-3.
