Ministry for land distribution sought
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: The CPI (M), which is spearheading ‘Bhoo poratam’ agitation, has demanded the creation of an exclusive Ministry, de-linked from the Revenue Department, to implement the land distribution programme in the State.
Participating in a debate on the Koneru Ranga Rao Committee report on land issues in the Assembly on Wednesday, P. Ramaiah (CPI-M) also sought appointment of a land commission to settle all land-related issues.
Ombudsman
Turning to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Mr. Ramaiah referred to the promise made in the Congress election manifesto, and said the plea of the Left parties was only to “implement your own programme”. He criticised that Indiramma programme was replete with irregularities and wanted an “ombudsman” to be appointed to weed out the bogus names among the beneficiaries.
Mr Ramaiah justified ‘Bhoo poratam’, saying the left parties were forced to launch it, seeing the plight of the shelter less urban poor. He demanded regularisation the one lakh acres occupied during Bhooporatam and scrapping of all cases filed against the agitators.
