3 more companies of special police for combing

K.T. Sangameswaran

CHENNAI: Three more companies of the Tamil Nadu Special Police are being deployed for combing operations to trace the naxalites who escaped from Murugan Malai near Periyakulam last month.

The personnel of the three companies (numbering around 300), had undergone training in jungle operations.

Besides those engaged in combing the hilly ranges in various parts of the State, six special parties of the ‘Q’ Branch are also on the job. Supplementing their efforts, ‘Q’ Branch units in the State are enquiring about the absconding naxalites and those who supported them.

Immediately after the attempt by naxalites to set up an arms training camp at Murugan Malai came to light, commandos of the Special Task Force (STF) and local police personnel began combing operations in different parts of the State, including the western ghats and hilly ranges bordering other States. An officer said the police were trying to trace Kalidoss and Navinprasad, who are said to have played a key role in organising the camp near Periyakulam.
