Prakash advances

NEW DELHI: Wild card Prakash Amritraj beat qualifier Takahiro Terachi of Japan 6-2, 6-4 to reach the pre-quarterfinals of the $75,000 Aptos Challenger tennis, being played on hard courts, in California.

The 23-year-old Indian Davis Cupper will take on Brian Wilson of the U.S. who ousted the top-seeded Kristian Pless of Denmark in three sets.

Meanwhile, in the $25,000 Challenger event being held on grass at Manchester, Rohan Bopanna made the doubles quarterfinals with Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan. The duo beat Richard Bloomfield and Ken Skupski of Britain 3-6, 7-6(3), 10-6.

However, the second-seeded Mustafa Ghouse and his British partner Joshua Goodall lost 6-4, 4-6, 8-10 to Rameez Junaid of Australia and Philipp Marx of Germany in another first- round encounter.
