VISAKHAPATNAM: Players selected for the three teams of Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association’s under-13 tournament have to report at the GVMC Stadium here at 5 p.m. on July 21.

Wellfare to sponsor handball event

The Wellfare group of companies will sponsor the Smt. Mangi Narasamma memorial all-India flood-lit invitation prize money handball tournament being organised by the MVP Young Stars Welfare Association here from July 27 to 29.

While M.A.S. Srinivas (Prabha) will sponsor the prize money of Rs. 50,000 (with Rs. 25,000 going to the winner, Rs. 15,000 to runner-up and Rs. 10,000 to the third-placed team), the Wellfare group would take care of at least 75 per cent of the rest of the expenses. The estimated expenditure of the tournament is Rs. 3.5 lakhs, organising secretary Srinivas Malladi said at a press conference here on Wednesday.

As many as 18 teams are expected to participate in the tournament to be held on league-cum-knockout format.

Secretary of the AP Handball Association S. Appa Rao said that three all-India tournaments and one exclusively for women were conducted in the city so far.
