NEW DELHI: A select batch of eight boxers will fly out to Kazakhstan on Saturday after visa formalities delayed their departure for the training camp. Funded by the Mittal Champions Trust, the Kazakh tour will prepare senior boxers for the crucial period that includes the Olympic qualifying World championship. Sanjay Kolte (48kg), Jitender Kumar (51kg), Akhil Kumar (54kg), Diwakar Prasad (57kg), Jai Bhagwan (60kg), Manoj Kumar (69kg), Vijender (75kg) and Dinesh (81kg) will train under former Russian coach, Kanat K. Zhaxybayev of Kazakhstan. The usual bureaucratic slip-ups had forced the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) to delay the departure by over a fortnight. The Kazakhstan Embassy here on Wednesday gave an assurance that visas for the boxers will be given on Friday, an IABF official said. The pugilists will train there for two weeks and then move to China to participate in an international tournament before returning for the National championships. Nationals will be final selection event for the Chicago World championship. — Principal Correspondent
