Vishnuvardhan claims third IM norm

New Delhi: Indian chess prodigy Arjun Vishnuvardhan completed his third International Master norm by winning the First Saturday Championship in Budapest, Hungary.

The 16-year-old from Kerala achieved the final norm after beating former Hungarian champion IM Petran Pal in the penultimate round of the tournament held from July 7 to 18, according to information received here.

Vishnuvardhan’s maiden IM norm came at the same tournament 53 days ago. He claimed his second IM norm at the World Open held at Philadelphia, USA on July 4.

He finished tied runner-up in a 1500-strong field.

Vishnuvardhan is the reigning U.S. National champion and also holds 18 international titles. — PTI
