Two noted Italian designers, Maurizio Bonas and Fragapane Salvatore, are in the Capital now to conduct a three-day workshop with Indian tailors and share the latest fashion trends from their country.

After conducting the second day of the workshop on Thursday, Bonas -- who is known as the ambassador of traditional suit craftsmanship -- said: “During my interaction with Indian tailors last year, I discussed the concept behind straight jackets . They have created a wide array of jackets, but need a few corrections. They have realised how difficult it is to create straight jackets. After undergoing training at the ongoing workshop, these tailors will be able to design perfect jackets. Just the way they are made in Italy.”

From the very beginning, Maurizio Bonas has been involved in research in this specialised field. Based on his knowledge of fabric and bold experimentation, he has skilfully transformed the style of dressing for Generation X.

Stating that Italian jackets are most sought after across the globe, Bonas says jackets in his country are made with the objective of making the buyer feel comfortable. “Unfortunately, jackets made in your country are a little heavier as they are based on the British pattern. But with India becoming a part of the global fashion circuit, it is important that they get tips on creating stylish clothes for men and women,” adds Bonas.

A master at making men’s suits and jackets in Italian style, Fragapane Salvatore says the raw material is an important element in creating jackets and that Indian tailors would now be procuring material straight from the Italian market. As the aim behind the workshop was to popularise Italian jackets among our “desi” tailors, workshops will also be held in Chennai and Kolkata.
