Driven by senses

Visual impairment does not deter Anjaneyulu from work at the district Registrar’s office

Sangareddy: Jogipeta Anjaneyulu carries important files of the Medak district Registrar’s office complex spread over two blocks and across twenty odd rooms on two floors with ease. He never missed to recognise a person, never misplaced a file and never been reprimanded for inefficiency. This visually impaired man has been working in the subordinate cadre here since 1997. Anjaneyulu, who was appointed during the tenure of Mohammad Shabuddin, worked under nine registrars. The present registrar D.K.Prasada Rao says, “Anjaneyulu performs his duties better than a person with sight.” The registrar recently helped Anjaneyulu shift from his native village Peddapur to Sangareddy saving him from the gruelling journey.

When asked Anjaneyulu saysthat he has inculcated that habit since childhood. The eldest child among four to his poor parents, Anjaneyulu lost his vision soon after birth. He strengthened his other senses to perfection.

Anjaneyulu recognises people by their voice and odour. He also uses touch as the last resort in recognising people.

A father of two, Anjaneyulu is also famous for his patriotic songs that he sings for the annual Independence Day celebrations at the Registrar’s office. He also completed a course in Braille from Hyderabad.
