PERAMBALUR: A preliminary consultative meeting on delimitation of municipalities, town panchayats and village panchayats in the district was held here recently.
Presiding over the meeting, the District Revenue Officer, P. Sankar, said that the State Government has directed the district administration to convene a meeting of elected representatives of local bodies and ascertain their views for re-drawing the jurisdiction of the local bodies.
He advised the elected representatives to submit their proposals on bifurcation or merger of a whole or part of the adjoining local village panchayats. The proposals should be submitted within a month’s time, after adopting resolutions at the meeting of local bodies.
Mr. Sankar said that a second meeting would be held when the proposals would be consolidated and draft recommendations finalised.
The draft recommendations would be displayed at prominent places in each local body for ascertaining the views of the members of the public. If necessary, a third meeting would be convened for effecting certain modifications to the draft recommendations before submission to the State Government.
