SHIMLA: Polling for the Presidential election ended peacefully in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday with all the 67 members of the State Assembly casting their votes, said Chief Election Commissioner Manisha Nanda.

The polling process was over within the first two hours. Ms Nanda said suspended Congress leader Vijay Singh Mankotia was the last legislator to cast his vote in the election after polling began at a brisk note in the morning, with 66 members of the Assembly polling their votes within the first 90 minutes.

The leader of the BJP group in the House, I.D. Dhiman, was the first to vote, followed by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. State Assembly Speaker G. R. Musafir also cast his vote. The ballot papers after being sealed on Thursday evening would be sent to New Delhi on Friday morning.

The 68-member Himachal Assembly had been reduced to 67 recently with former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Prem Kumar Dhumal being elected to the Lok Sabha from Hamirpur recently. A single vote of the Himachal Assembly has a value of 51 for a combined value of 3,417 for the State.
