Kozhikode: The police authorities in Wayanad have introduced measures aimed at protecting the tribal people taken to work in farms in Karnataka. The action was initiated in the wake of reports about the disappearance of the tribal labourers from Wayanad who were taken to work in ginger farms in Karnataka. Some of the labourers were found dead under mysterious circumstances. According to an order issued on Thursday, the contractors have to furnish details about the identity of the tribal labourers at the police stations. The contractors have been told to ensure that the labourers returned back safely from the neighbouring State. To Karnataka
Many tribal labourers went to Karnataka to work in the farms since job opportunities in farms in Wayanad have declined due to the crisis in the agriculture sector.
