People start leaving relief camps

KALPETTA: People of Wayanad showed signs of recovering from the misery and hardships caused by floods as the water receded in bright sunshine for most part of the day on Thursday.

People started leaving relief camps opened by the district administration for those displaced by floods. Twenty-six relief centres were closed down on Thursday.

However, nearly 4,000 persons belonging to 1,039 families are still staying in the 50 relief centres . By official estimates, the loss to crops in recent spell of heavy rain was put at Rs 21.3 crore. Crops n 14.20 hectares were damaged. The rain in the last two days also destroyed 10 houses and damaged 56 houses.
