The colleges were started on the basis of the NOCs
Puducherry: National Executive Committee secretary of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) G. P. Sarathy has criticised the “silence” maintained by the Government in ensuring equal sharing of seats in private medical colleges even as students were facing hardship with managements playing hide and seek game in the matter. Addressing newsmen during his visit to Puducherry on Wednesday, Mr. Sarathy said that while in Tamil Nadu, the Government had initiated steps to procure a big chunk of seats for the Government-sponsored students in professional colleges, the Union Territory Administration was not concerned about the plight of students here. The managements of the medical colleges were deciding on their own the quota of seats they would surrender to the Government without honouring the no objection certificates (NOCs). The colleges were started on the basis of the NOCs, which clearly stated that there should be equal sharing of seats between the Government and private professional colleges. Mr. Sarathy said that the Government was “pro-management”. The NCP leader called upon Health Minister of Puducherry E. Valsaraj to quit office owning responsibility for the hardships students were now facing owing to the current imbroglio. President the NCP here G. Sundaramoorthy said that the party urged the Government to constitute a Welfare Board for farmers. Secretary of the party here Ashok Kumar was also present.
