UNPA has lost its credibility, says AICC Secretary

Special Correspondent

Puducherry: All India Congress Committee Secretary P. Sudhakar Reddy said that the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Khazhagam supremo Jayalalithaa has shown her “real colour”, when she came out in the eleventh hour to extend her party’s support to the Bhartiya Janata Party-backed Independent candidate Bhairon Singh Shekawat in the Presidential poll.

Addressing presspersons at the PCC office on Thursday, Mr. Reddy said that the United National Progressive Alliance, constituted by the “disgruntled and directionless” political parties, had lost credibility with Jayalalithaa’s last minute change of mind.

Although she had been maintaining that the UNPA would maintain equidistance from both the National Democratic Alliance and the United Progressive alliance, she had now extended the support to Mr. Shekawat.

People of this region would now realise how uncertain Ms. Jayalalithaa was in her political decisions.

Asserting that the UPA left nominee Pratibha Patil would emerge victorious, Mr. Reddy said that Ms. Patil was known for her simplicity and honesty.

The UPA chairperson had made the right choice for the highest Constitutional post. r. Reddy thanked all the Congress MLAs and its allian

ce parties’ legislators. He expressed gratitude to three Independents and the three Puducherry Munnetra Congress MLAs for their support to the UPA nominee.

A. G. S. Ram Babu, AICC observer for the poll, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and PCC leader P Shanmugham were also present.
