Bidar: The Bidar District Sugarcane Growers’ Agitation Committee has threatened to launch an agitation if the cooperative sugar factories in the district failed to pay arrears to farmers immediately. In a memorandum, the committee leaders said that the factories promised to pay Rs. 1,100 for a tonne of sugarcane supplied. But they were speaking of paying between Rs. 600 and Rs. 800 a tonne. This was not acceptable. Farmers would not accept anything below Rs. 1100, the committee leaders said. They have demanded that the State Government should pay a compensation amount of Rs. 25,000 a hectare for sugarcane that was not harvested.
