Belgaum: Workers of Kannada Rakshana Vedike (KRV) on Thursday took out a procession from Fort Circle to the Deputy Commissioner’s office in protest against the “delay” in laying foundation stone for Suvarna Vikasa Soudha building in Belgaum city. Both Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa had promised to establish the soudha in Belgaum city during the special legislature session held here in September last. Mr. Yediyurappa, who holds the finance portfolio, had earmarked necessary funds in the annual budget proposals for the current financial year. But, owing to lack of consensus on the site, the Government could not go ahead with foundation-laying ceremony. The KRV workers also protested against the “delay” in organising the Vishwa Kannada Sammelana, which was slated to be held in February. Kannada and Culture Minister H.S. Mahadev Prasad on Wednesday announced that the Government would hold the World Kannada Meet in Belgaum in the last week of September. The protest was led by KRV district unit president Rajeev Topannavar, who reiterated the demand for taluk status to Kittur.
