BELLARY: Members of the district unit of Akhil Karnataka Rajya Sarkari Noukarara Okkoota on Thursday staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office to oppose, among other things, amendments to the existing pension scheme, privatisation and ban and surrendering of posts. In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the employees took exception to the efforts to implement the new pension scheme despite the fact that it was not approved by Parliament and expressed concern over it and demanded that the move should be dropped. They also said that the employees would be severely affected if the contributory pension scheme proposed by the State Government was given effect. Welcoming the State Government’s decision to implement the Fifth Pay Commission, the members were of the view that the pay revision of now was very meagre compared to the long gap of nine years on one hand and there was lot of discrepancies in fixation of wages. The okkoota demanded reclassification of cities . K.M. Gurusiddamurthy, president, N.D.Venkamma, member of the executive committee, Manjula Havaldar, treasurer, were in the lead. Employees of LIC of India Association also participated in the dharna.
