“Increase grants to students”

Staff Reporter

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The Virudhunagar district administration would recommend to the State Government an increase in uniform grants given to each INDUS (a child labour eradication project, jointly implemented by the Indian and U.S. Governments) student to Rs. 200 from Rs. 135, the District Collector (in-charge), S. Malarvizhi, said.

Reviewing the functioning of the INDUS Project here on Thursday, Ms. Malarvizhi said that action would be initiated against anyone who employed children below 14 years of age. She advised the inspection teams to make frequent surprise checks to prevent child labour. Chief Educational Officer S. Nagaraja Murugan and the INDUS Project Officer Y. Jeyaprakash were present.
