Special Correspondent
Thiruvananthapuram: The Inter-Church Council for Education (ICCE) has questioned CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan’s contention that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is not anti-minority. Council spokesman Philip Nelpuraparambil said in a rejoinder issued here on Thursday that the authorities were cancelling the affiliation of three minority engineering colleges even as Mr. Vijayan was trying to argue the pro-minority credentials of the LDF. That increased the relevance of pastoral letters and underscored the inevitability of steps to check such action. He said that minority right was exercised only in institutions set up and managed by the minorities. The High Court had opined that the enactment of a law to appropriate it showed that the Government was anti-minority and anti-Constitutional. The Government was still pursuing the case in the Supreme Court. If the Government’s contention was sincere, it should withdraw that case, he said. He said there were several instances of the abrogation of the minority rights by the Government.
