Panchayat chief’s spouse done to death

VILLUPURAM: P. Arunachalam (39), husband of Pudupallacheri Panchayat president Alamelu, was hacked to death at Thiagadurgam near here on Wednesday.

The police said Arunachalam, an AIADMK functionary, was driving a two-wheeler, when a gang waylaid and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons.

People of Pudupallacheri resorted to road blockade, urging authorities to book the culprits. Later, the body was taken to hospital for post-mortem. — Special Correspondent
