Council wants separate cell to implement Sachar panel report
HYDERABAD: Members of Legislative Council on Thursday suggested that the Government set up a separate cell to effectively implement the recommendations of Sachar Committee report and Prime Minister’s 15-point programme for Muslim minorities.
Participating in a short discussion on Sachar Committee report and the Prime Minister’s 15-point programme for minorities, TDP member Ibrahim Bin Abdullah Masquati decried neglect of Muslims since Independence. He said their condition was worse than Dalits. He faulted the four per cent quota for Muslims introduced by the Government and alleged that it was meant to divide the community on caste lines.
Mohammed Jani (Congress) favoured an autonomous body to implement the report and monitor the Prime Minister’s programme. He said district-level review committees consisting of officials should ensure fool-proof programmes. Chukka Ramaiah (Ind) said the Government should have a sub-plan for welfare of Muslims on the lines of SC and ST sub–plan.
