Flood alert sounded in 11 districts

SALEM: A flood alert has been sounded in 11 districts through which the Cauvery flows, with the Mettur dam receiving heavy inflow since Wednesday night. Police, Fire and Rescue Service and Revenue officials have been put on alert.

Pubic Works Department sources said the inflow was 1.17 lakh cusecs on Thursday evening, and the dam might surplus either on Thursday night or early on Friday. As 20,000 cusecs was being let into the river, people living in low-level areas and villages along the banks had been asked to move to safer places.

The Krishna Raja Sagar is full (124.80 feet), with an inflow of 64,722 cusecs. The level in the Kabini reservoir stood at 63.12 feet against the full level of 65 feet.

The Harangi reservoir level stood at 127.52 feet (full level 129 feet). The PWD has sounded an alert upstream of the Grand Anicut.
