Police chase away mob in Devakottai

Staff Reporter

SIVAGANGA: The police on Thursday resorted to mild lathicharge on a mob, which allegedly prevented them from handing over the body of a school boy, who was murdered on Wednesday, to his parents in Devakottai.

According to sources, tension mounted when a mob laid siege to the hospital where the body of N. Jagadish (17), was kept for post-mortem.

It demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the murder.

The mob refused to receive the body and also resorted to a road blockade on the National Highway 210.

The Superintendent of Police, N. Kannan, and the Revenue Divisional Officer, Moorthy, told the protestors that all the four accused in the case had been arrested.

But the agitators demanded that the arrested persons be produced before them.

As tension mounted, the police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd. Later, the boy’s body was handed over to his father.
