MADURAI: Recording and editing equipment worth Rs.2.5 lakh belonging to the Madurai Kamaraj University was found missing from the campus on Tuesday following which the authorities swung into action to trace the culprits.
The imported equipment belonged to the Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) and was used for recording educational programmes produced for telecast.
According to MKU officials, the lost equipment included four circuit boards, each costing Rs.50,000.
Staff from a private company, who came to undertake regular service of machines in the EMRC, found the equipment missing.
Authorities said on Wednesday that an enquiry had been ordered into the suspected theft.
“We have taken a very serious note of the incident and all steps are being taken to identify the persons involved,” a senior university official said. The EMRC is now providing more options to students by which they can choose a faculty member for learning subject topics. The centre produces programmes for live classroom sessions telecast through Educational Satellite for various subjects.
With this new feature, the centre will be able to arrange ‘on demand lectures’ by roping in faculty members the students want.
