Maharashtra State Power Committee formed

Special Correspondent

MUMBAI: A high-level Maharashtra State Power Committee has been constituted with the managing director of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd., Ajay Bhushan Pandey, as its first chairperson.

The committee, formed on the guidelines issued by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission, has been entrusted with coordinating and facilitating intra-State trading activities by optimal utilisation of resources, review of energy accounting, and billing for inter-utility trading of power.

It has to correct imbalance among the State power pool participants in accordance with the Balancing and Settlement Code Order.

The committee will meet frequently to address the technical and commercial issues of implementation of the intra-State Availability Based Tariff (ABT).

The inter-State ABT was introduced by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission to discipline grid operations by disincentivising the utilities from overdrawing power at low frequency.
