Corrections and clarifications

  • ;A sentence in a report “Snakes, scorpions await flood evacuees [in Malappuram district] on their return” (Coimbatore – Kerala edition, July 19, 2007, page 3) was: “Among the snakes washed ashore were cobras, crates, vipers and even pythons.” “Crates” should have been “kraits”. (A krait, from the Hindi word karait, is a highly venomous Asian snake of the cobra family.)

  • ;In a report “Bhopal gas victims stage rally” (Some editions and the internet edition, July 19, 2007), the reference to Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Stationary Karmachari Sangh should have been to the Bhopal Gas Peedi t Mahila Stationery Karmachari Sangh (BGPMSKS). (The BGPMSKS is a registered trade union of gas affected women survivors working in the paper stationery factory set up as part of the Government’s rehabilitation programme after the 1984 Union Carbide gas disaster in Bhopal. Under this programme, two centres for the production of office stationery were set up on November 25, 1985. Women from affected families were selected and given training in the production of file covers, writing pads, registers, note books and other stationery. The produced goods are supplied to the Government Press.)
