NEW DELHI: Raj Randhawa, one of the promising talents on the Indian golf scene, took a firm step towards his professional career by topping the first stage of the Professional Golf Tour of India’s (PGTI) Q-school for the 2007-08 season. The 19-year-old Randhawa was the only player in the first stage to aggregate an under-par total with round of 70 and 71 in the 36-hole first stage competition at the Golden Greens Golf and Country Club near here. Seasoned Feroz Ali, a former Indian Open champion, followed Randhawa with rounds of 73 and 73. Ali was made to go through the Q-school as he took the PGTI membership only recently. Jaskeerat Singh Dullet and Australian Chris Hynes were the other two prominent names to make it through. A total of 97 golfers took part in the first stage and of them 37 made it to the next stage to be held on Friday and Saturday. A total of about 40 cards will be made available from the final stage to be held next week. They will join the top-60 from the 2006-07 PGTI Order of Merit and other exempted players from the main tour. — Principal Correspondent
