State open chess

VIJAYAWADA: The two-day AP State open chess tournament, jointly organised by NTR Stadium and Krishna District Chess Association, will be held at NTR Stadium at Gudivada on July 21 and 22. The total prize money is Rs. 20,000; special prizes will be awarded to talented players in under-7, 9, 11, 13 and 15 age categories. Badminton tournament

The AP State sub-junior u-13 badminton tournament will be held at Golala Mamidada, a village near Kakinada, from July 26 to 29. Qualifying rounds will be held on July 26. The AP boys’ and girls’ teams to take part in the sub-junior Nationals to be held at Dehradun will be selected from the meet.

Cricket tournament

The Andhra Cricket Association for Disabled (ACAD) will organise a national tournament for the physically challenged at IGMC stadium in Vijayawada from December 3. Eight state teams are expected to take part in the three-day tournament, according to ACAD secretary U. Mohammad Sheriff.

Pat for Padmavathi

The Krishna District Hockey Association office-bearers on Thursday congratulated M. Padmavathi on her selection to the national sub-junior camp to be held at Lucknow. The Class X student of Sriram High School, Ajitsinghnagar, is one among the three AP players selected for the camp. The other two were Aswini and Sujitha of Kadapa.
