The Sports Authority of India on behalf of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, will award National-level and State-level scholarships for the year 2007-2008, to the sportspersons studying in recognised schools / colleges / universities who have secured first or second or third position in individual events or have been a part of the winning or runners-up team in the recognized International, National or State-level competitions including State school competitions conducted between the period January 1 to December 31, 2006, subject to fulfilling other eligibility conditions. Special scholarships are also available for unemployed women champions above 19 years of age, who have secured first or second or third position in the recognised senior National competitions in individual events only, conducted between 01-01-2006 to 31-12-2006. Eligible Sports persons should write to the Executive Director (A), SAI NS NIS, Moti Bagh, Patilala-147001 (Punjab) for details and the prescribed application form. Ranga Reddy District Hockey Association will organise selection trials for girls at Kendriya Viayalaya No. I (Uppal) on July 21 from 3.00 p.m. to pick the district team for the junior inter-district meet to be held in Tirupati from July 25 to 29. P. Venkatapathi Raju claimed nine wickets for HPCL in the team’s two-wicket win over LG Polymers in a low-scoring match of the VDCA institutions league at Visakhapatnam on Thursday. Meanwhile, in the clubs league, Srinu claimed six wickets for M.F. Khan CC against Ispat CC, V. Raju picked up six wickets for Luxury CC ‘A’ and in the team’s reply Gowri CC’s Sankar claimed six wickets to help his team win the match. The scores: Institutions league: LG Polymers 91 in 18.3 overs (P. Venkatapathi Raju nine for 18) lost to HPCL 94 for eight in 26.5 overs (UVLN Raju four for 39).
