BANGALORE: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) staff on Wednesday arrested five men and foiled the plans of an underworld gang to eliminate a rival gangster. On a tip off, the staff of the Organised Crime Prevention Cell of the CCB arrested five accomplices of the jailed gangster Korangu, alias Krishna and seized from them a country-made revolver, three live bullets and three choppers. They were planning to murder Sreenivasa, alias Bruce Lee, an associate of Jedarahalli Krishnappa, the police said. A team led by inspector K. Nanjunde Gowda arrested Vasanth, Naveen Kumar, Bhaskar, Santosh and Rajendra from Prem Nagar in Basaveshwaranagar police station limits. One of their accomplices, Raja managed to escape. Korangu’s trusted aide Katu Ravi had hatched the murder plan, the police said. According to the police, there is a history sheet against Sreenivasa in the Hanumanthanagar police station. Motorcycle-borne men robbed two women of their gold chains in as many incidents reported from the jurisdiction of the West division police in the city on Wednesday. The police said that around 2.15 p.m., two men, who were riding a motorcycle, snatched a gold estimated at Rs. 25,000 from Savithri while she was walking in Chandrashekar Block in Rajarajeshwarinagara police station limits. In the second incident, two motorists robbed Nagarathna of a gold chain estimated at Rs. 10,000 in the Jnana Bharathi police station limits.
