Thiruvananthapuram: The Rural police have arrested one person in connection with the murder of C. Asokan, a Kerala State Financial Enterprises (KSFE) employee, whose strangled body was found near the National Highway at Pathankallu last week. The arrested person, Justin, was an employee of the KSFE office in Balaramapuram, the police said, adding that it was a case of murder-for-gain. The police have registered a separate case against Justin on the charge of attempting to commit suicide. Asokan, a peon attached to the KSFE office in Neyyatinkara, had left his office around 10.30 a.m. with Rs 4 lakhs. He was supposed to deposit the amount at a nearby bank. The police were alerted after he failed to return. After 12 p.m., the local people of Pathankallu informed the police that they had seen a person dragging a body out of a car and attempting to bury it in a nearby tapioca plantation. He abandoned the body and fled when the residents raised an alarm. The police identified the body as that of the missing peon. The car owner was traced. The police found a spade, plastic rope and Rs 3.98 lakhs inside the vehicle.
