Chikungunya, dengue cases come down

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: Over 2,900 cases of viral fever were reported in the district on Thursday, in which 11 were suspected chikungunya. The fever graph in the district continues at the same level and much to the relief of the district health administration, the geographical distribution of the cases also remains the same.

Viral fever cases continue to be reported from Neyyattinkara, Perumkadavila, Vellarada, Nedumangad, Kesavapuram, Attingal, Parassala, Kallara and Vithura areas in the district.

The district health administration has issued a warning to the public to concentrate on vector control activities in peri-domestic areas so as to prevent an upswing in dengue and chikungunya.

Though viral fever cases continue to be reported in large numbers, the number of suspected chikungunya cases and dengue has been coming down. However, as rains have intensified, breeding grounds for mosquitoes would also have gone up. Unless care is taken, the vector index could go up again.

The District Health and Family Welfare Society has issued orders appointing 117 doctors on contract basis in Government health care institutions in the district.

Five doctors each have been additionally posted at hospitals in Poovar, Pulluvila and Vizhinjam. Institutions at Valiathura and Puthenthopu will get six doctors each, while seven doctors have been posted at Anchuthengu.

About 200 staff nurses have been posted at General Hospital, SAT hospital, Medical College hospital, Mental Health Centre, Peroorkada Government hospital, Women and Children hospital, Thycaud and various taluk hospitals, community health centres and primary health centres in the district.

The District Health and Family Welfare Society has also disbursed Aarogya Keralam funds to the tune of Rs. 18 lakh to 63 PHCs and nine CHCs in the district.
