Expressway: residents move High Court

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Several residents of Bangalore on Thursday challenged in the Karnataka High Court the proposed expressway from Bangalore city to the international airport coming up at Devanahalli.

The petitioners, N. Hemachandra, B.C. Gopal and 25 others, said the authorities had forcibly entered their houses and lands to set up marker stones, saying that the expressway would come up in the vicinity.

They said it was only on September 25, 2006 that the BMRDA issued a notification on the draft scheme for the expressway along with a map. The petitioners said they were not given any notice about the proposed expressway or acquisition of their lands.

Justice Ajit Gunjal ordered issue of notices.
