Staff Reporter

Affected farmers want land as reimbursement

Sangareddy: A section of the affected farmers in Kandi, the proposed site for establishment of an Indian Institute of Technology, announced that they do not want to part with the valuable land and demanded land in lieu of land.

The farmers who are around 30 in number, organized a press conference at the same site where the central team held a meeting with the officers and alleged that the district administration has omitted certain areas all in the effort to save the rich and influential.

Begari Pochaiah a dalit who holds six acres of land under survey number 369 pointed out that the administration which has promised Government land for IIT now dropped a bomb saying that 330 acres out of 503 has to be acquired rendering large number of farmers jobless overnight.

The farmers demanded land in lieu of Kandi land denied that they were ever told by the administration about IIT and the need to handover their lands.

Few farmers said that the sum of Rs. 2 lakh per acre offered by the Revenue divisional officer is a pittance when compared to the market value of the land in Kandi now.
