Chennai: K.B. Arun Karthik of Grand Slam and India Pistons’ M. Suresh Babu notched up hundreds on the opening day of the third round matches of the TNCA first division league here on Thursday. Arun Karthik (128, 137b, 18x4) and E. Ashwin (75 batting, 115b, 11x4) shone for Grand Slam as the host finished at 313 for seven against Young Stars at the ICL-Guru Nanak ground. Sunil Oasis contributed 45. K. Srinivasan, bowling off-spin, claimed three wickets. Pistons’ Suresh (107 batting, 260b, 12x4, 1x6) was involved in two partnerships — 81 for the second wicket in 30.2 overs with E. Arun Kumar (63, 97b, 6x4) and 118 for the third wicket in 43.2 overs with R. Srinivasan (53, 136b, 6x4) — and the host ended the day at 254 for three against Indian Bank at the CPT-IP ground. Walking in at 33 for three, Globe Trotters skipper Sunil Viswanathan remained unbeaten on 71 (208b, 6x4) in his team’s score of 204 for six against holder Vijay at the SRMC ground. Y. Venugopala Rao made 41 and Gowjith Subash 43. Paceman G. Vignesh took three wickets. In-form opener S. Anirudha followed up his hundreds in successive matches with a hectic 67-ball 80 (8x4, 4x6) as Aruna closed the day at 317 for nine against Parry’s at MAC. Anirudha and Noor-ul-Riaz (16) put on 86 for the first wicket in 18.1 overs, but with paceman Ambrish Rangan striking thrice, Aruna slumped to 113 for five. The scores: At RKM-Viveka: Eagles 200 for five in 96 overs (T. Karunamurthy 75, B. Vijay Rahul 59) vs IOB. At SRMC: Globe Trotters 204 for six in 90 overs (Y. Venugopala Rao 41, Gowjith Subash 43, Sunil Viswanathan 71 batting) vs Vijay. At IIT-Chemplast: Jolly Rovers 212 in 71.1 overs (R. Ashwin 80, S. Vasanth Saravanan 72, Huzefa M. Patel four for 83) vs Alwarpet 48 for one in 16 overs. At ICL-Guru Nanak: Grand Slam 313 for seven in 90 overs (K.B. Arun Karthik 128, Sunil Oasis 45, E. Aswin 75 batting) vs Young Stars.
