PATHANAMTHITTA: Kalabhabhishekom (anointing with sandal paste) was performed at the Lord Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala on Friday. Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru, assisted by Melsanthi E. Eeswaran Namboodiri, did Kalabhapuja at the temple’s Namaskara Mantapam. The golden urn carrying the sandal paste was taken to the sanctum sanctorum in a customary procession, to the accompaniment of the sacred Marappani and other temple music instruments, prior to Utchapuja. The sandal paste was poured on the Ayyappa idol amid chants of “Ayyappa saranam” by the devotees. Udayasthamanapuja, Pushpabhishekom and Padipuja were the other special rituals held on Friday. The Tantri said that another Kalabhabhishekom would be held on Saturday. The five-day puja in the Malayalam month of Karkidakom will conclude with Athazhapuja on Saturday. Niraputhari fete
Chandrashekharan Nair, Travancore Devaswom Board’s administrative officer at Sabarimala, said the temple would be reopened on July 28 afternoon for the annual Niraputhari celebrations the next day. The Niraputhari Puja will be performed at Sannidhanam during the auspicious time between 6.20 a.m. and 6.45 a.m. The Tantri will perform the puja.
