NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Friday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here and sought a Rs. 80,000-crore package for the development of the State. Fund for infrastructure
During the hour-long meeting, she demanded an assistance of Rs. 14,100 crore for development of infrastructure in the backward Bundelkhand and Purvanchal regions, which should be treated on a par with Uttarakhand for a “special area incentive package.” The package might be spread over five years. Job opportunities
At a press conference later, Ms. Mayawati said she had sought a Rs. 22,000-crore special assistance for providing employment in the farming and other sectors. Another Rs. 6,500 crore was sought for rural development and the Panchayati Raj Department and Rs. 1,33,000 crore, for other proposals for integrated development of the State. Favouring job reservation for economically weaker sections among upper castes also, she said the quota policy for the weaker sections should be implemented in the private and other sectors too.
