KORAPUT: In an innovative measure to support education of children and financial wellbeing of women, C.T.M. Suguna, RDC of Southern Division, has come up with an insurance package for at least 45 lakh beneficiaries living in the rural areas of the division .The scheme will be launched on August 15 this year. Speaking to The Hindu at Koraput, she said that the children discontinuing their studies for one reason or the other was a cause for concern. Findings from various research works done among the tribal children staying in hostels rev ealed that many of these children had left the schools once they fell sick. They rarely had come back to the school once they were sent home to get the care from their parents, she said. Children remaining ill for a long time because of their poor financial position had lost their interest in education adding to the list of dropouts. To check this, discussions were held withinsurance companies to provide health cover to children at minimum premium. A sum of Rs.225 per year would be deducted from scholarship amount that each tribal child receives from government.
