Ryots will get enough fertilizers: Collector

Theni district has received 84.92 mm rainfall till June


THENI: Efforts were on to supply fertilizers and other inputs to farmers through the Department of Agriculture, Collector Har Sahay Meena has said.

He was addressing a grievance day meeting at the Collectorate here on Friday.

To avoid shortfall

“Our aim is to avoid shortfall of fertilizers and ensure its availability at the right hour. Farmers can get all assistance from the Department of Agriculture,” he said.

Paddy has been raised on 242 hectares, small grains on 2,273 hectares, pulses on 4,383 hectares, cotton on 122 hectares, sugarcane on 2,644 hectares, oil seeds on 3,473 hectares in the district till June.

Subsidised rates

A total of 220 motor pumps, three tractors and 20 power tillers and other equipment would be given to the farmers at subsidised rates this year by the Department of Agriculture Engineering.

Eligible farmers could contact the officials concerned, he said.

The district has received 84.92 mm rainfall till June, which was 57 per cent higher than the average rainfall during last year this period.

Animal attack

Check dams and percolation tanks were constructed in Megamalai, Varushanadu, Goodalur, Cumbum and Uthamapalayam forest ranges to prevent animals from entering villages, he added.
