Symposium on ‘Prohibition of ragging’ held Colleges told to arrange complaint boxes
Kakinada: Third Additional District and Sessions Judge B. Naga Maruti Sarma has suggested to all college managements to constitute special committees to prevent ragging in their institutions. Special law
Addressing a symposium on ‘Prohibition of ragging in education institutions’ organised by the Mandal Legal Services Authority at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Law here on Saturday, he said concerted efforts should be made by all concerned, including college management, teachers, parents, police and students, to put an end to the ragging which is raising its ugly heads. Expressing concern over the unhealthy trends that crept in the educational institutions in the name of ragging, he cited how it had led to unnatural crimes and even murders in some cases. Stating that the Government brought out a special enactment prohibiting ragging providing for severe punishment- imprisonment along with penalty, he wanted every one including managements, hostel wardens and teachers for the effective implementation of the provisions of the Act. He also advised all the managements to arrange complaint boxes in all the colleges. P V Trinath, principal of the Rajiv Institute of Law, who presided, said all educational institutions should strictly adhere to guidelines given by the highest court. Principal Senior Civil Judge P Vara Prasad, Second Additional Senior Civil Judge T. Ramesh, Junior Civil Judge P Bhaskara Rao and others attended.
