Kozhikode: Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran has said that the Government will declare a comprehensive water policy this year itself. A statutory system to save the rivers and river banks was necessary, Mr. Premachandran said after inaugurating a workshop on ‘water literacy’ for high school teachers organised jointly by the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) and the Regional Science Centre (RSC) and Planetarium at the RSC here on Saturday. He said that only through legislation could activities like water exploitation, water theft, dumping of waste on water bodies could be prevented and rivers protected. He said that reaching tap water to all in the State was impossible for any Government. The Government was trying to increase per capita water availability by 2010-11.
