VISAKHAPATNAM: The ball is in Central Government court as far as conferring the status of Indian Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology (IIEST) on Andhra University College of Engineering (autonomous), Vice-Chancellor L. Venugopal Reddy said here on Saturday. Admissions
Once the IIEST status is accorded, AUCE will come under the control of Union Ministry of Human Resources Development. Though the institution receives a huge amount of funds, the admissions will be made on all-India basis, a factor which might turn out to be detrimental to the interests of the locals as they might not get a good number of seats in the institution. (IIESTs are the third rung of Central engineering institutions after IITs and National Institutes of Technology (NITs), which were earlier called RECs).
