Staff Reporter

‘Differences in the BJP, if any, should not bother others’

Bangalore: Bharatiya Janata Party State president D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Saturday reiterated that there was no change in the decision that Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa would head the coalition government with the Janata Dal (S) after October 3. Differences in the BJP, if any, should not bother others.

He was speaking to presspersons after chairing a meeting of office-bearers of the BJP State unit.

Mr. Gowda and Mr. Yediyurappa gave identical reactions to statements made by Housing Minister D.T. Jayakumar and M.P. Venkatesh, JD(S) MLA, apart from Mr. Kumaraswamy, no more comments would be made on the transfer of power to the BJP. Both the BJP leaders said they were confident that Mr. Kumaraswamy would keep his word on the transfer of power.

The meeting was attended by national general secretary H.N. Ananth Kumar, MP, Ministers and others. Mr. Gowda said all the leaders had been advised not to make any statement that would mar the image of the party or the chances of the BJP coming to power.

Mr. Yediyurappa congratulated Pratibha Patil on her election as President and termed it a victory for women in the country. About the setback to the party caused by the defeat of Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and the JD(S) abstaining from voting, he said it was expected. The meeting, he said had discussed the loss of lives and property in the floods in several districts.

Briefing presspersons on the proceedings of the meeting, C.T. Ravi and D. Veeraiah, secretaries of the State unit, said that groups of party MPs and legislators would visit all the drought-hit and flood-affected districts to study the extent of damage. A report on the situation and the relief measures required would be submitted to the Government.

Resolution

They said that a resolution, ‘One booth, ten youth’, was adopted under which party workers would visit all the 224 Assembly constituencies and inform the people about the welfare measures taken for the uplift of Dalits and minorities by the Government. The executive committee meeting on Sunday would be attended, among others, by the former External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha, Mr. Ananth Kumar and Mr. Yediyurappa.

Another meeting on preparations to be made for the urban local body elections would be held on Monday.
