THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran on Saturday criticised the Union Government for not granting special assistance to the State for flood relief. In a statement here, the Minister said the State could not countenance the approach of the Centre in the matter. Kerala had suffered huge losses. Many lives had been lost in monsoon-related calamities. Ministers and Members of the Legislative Assembly were leading the relief activities. The Assembly had sought assistance from the Centre. The State’s loss was estimated at Rs. 1,400 crore. He said the Centre had sanctioned Rs. 35.35 crore for flood relief. However, this was only an advance of the second instalment of sum receivable for calamity relief under the recommendations of the Planning Commission.
