To facilitate ties with export agencies To ensure job security for workers
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government has appointed a commission with Anathalavattom Anandan as chairman to submit recommendations on comprehensive reorganisation of the coir sector in the State. Head of the Department of Future Studies of Kerala University V. Nandamohan is the convener of the commission. The members are N. K. Mohan (Director of Coir development Corporation), V.R. Prasad, P.R. Louis, M. Kumararaja (Secretary of Coir Board), S. Suresh, V. Sasi, V.S. Mani and N. Ajith Kumar. Minister for Cooperation and Coir G. Sudhakaran said that the terms of reference of the Commission would include time-bound modernisation and restructuring of the coir sector. The Committee would also recommend on measures to be taken for maintenance of healthy relationship between the export agencies and the traditional sector, besides steps for improving the job security and job opportunities in the sector. The other issues to be considered by the commission include redefining of the working of the public sector units, strengthening and reorganisation of the cooperative sector, streamlining of the Coir Department, research and development, market development, diversification of products, measures to increase production of husk, development of new products by mixing natural fibres and price stabilisation in the sector.
