‘Don’t give effect to APMC Bill’

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Green Brigade have urged the State Government not to give effect to the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (Amendment) Bill.

Raitha Sangha president Kodihalli Chandrashekar told presspersons here on Saturday that the Bill would sound the death knell of small farmers and encourage contract farming in a big way.

“The State Government is playing into the hands of multinational companies by forming Special Economic Zones and also allowing genetically modified seeds to be introduced. Now it is allowing them in the field of marketing too,” he said.

Urging the Government to not yield to pressure from multinational companies, Mr. Chandrashekar said these companies never worked for the public good and would deprive farmers the right to decide on their produce. — Staff Reporter
