HOPES REVIVED: A view of the gathering at the inauguration of annual conference of Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association at Palace Grounds in Bangalore on Saturday.

BANGALORE: The Government will regularise the services of employees working with it on daily wages in compliance with the Supreme Court direction, Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy has said.

Addressing the annual State level convention of Karnataka State Government Employees Association here on Saturday, he said the Government had taken the “bold decision” despite additional financial burden.

The issue of regularising the services of daily wage workers had been pending since 1984. But the coalition government was determined to make it a reality as a matter of social justice. It had formed a cabinet subcommittee for the purpose, he said.

The Government had decided to fill up all backlog vacancies in the coming days. It would make efforts to implement all recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission. In the light of all these developments, employees had a responsibility to ensure that all programmes and welfare schemes of the Government should reach all the sections of society, particularly rural areas, Mr. Kumaraswmy said.

Referring to the human and social problems in the rural areas which he had witnessed during his village stay programmes, he said that officials should visit villages and address the problems instead of finding solutions within their comfortable chambers.

Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, who released a souvenir on the occasion, urged the employees not to scuttle the development programmes by causing delay in their implementations. Despite an additional financial burden of over Rs. 1,457 crore, the Government had taken measures to implement the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission as promised. It would make efforts to fulfil the 16 demands of the employees’ association, he said.

Pleading for the speedy implementation of development programmes and schemes, Mr. Yediyurappa said that in comparison, the salary of State Government employees was 50 per cent higher than the employees of other States such as Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh after the implementation of the recommendations of the pay commission.

‘Implement schemes’

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and the former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh called upon the employees to make honest and concerted efforts to implement the government programmes.

They should not resort to protest demonstrations for petty reasons.

His Government was responsible for the constitution of the Fifth Pay Commission, he said.

Minster for Health and Family Welfare R. Ashok, Industry Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu and Minister for Sericulture S. Shivanna were present.

Association’s president L. Byrappa presided over the convention.
