KOCHI: Nine Albanian nationals, crew of Maria S. that sank off the coast of Kochi on June 30, have left for their homes via Mumbai and Istanbul after the Directorate General of Shipping cleared their departure, a statement from the Cochin Port Staff Association said here on Saturday. Fifteen crew of the Albanian ship were rescued by the Marine Department personnel of Cochin Port Trust (CPT). Five of the Indian crew had gone home earlier this month. The detained crew held a demonstration on July 18 demanding their immediate repatriation. The CPT demanded that the owner of the vessel provide a bank guarantee of Rs.12 crore and an undertaking to begin removing the wreckage within 30 days. The owner of the vessel approached the court against this directive.
